Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
This is the start of somthing good. I'm in the process of collecting similar data for alot of engines to post (as well as gearboxes) for the home mechanic.
Might want to add also
Oil Capacity
Bore and stroke (as well as the the engine type ie 253)
And possibly some comments on basic performance parts (particularly for the harder to source parts for engines)Beige.... The new Black!!!

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
do you have the 2t and 3t series, I can probably pull them off the old forums, but i assume there must be some sort of workshop manual around for these engines as well.

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
At the moment I just have a list of all popular Toyota engines and under each engine I've started compiling the similar info to what is above. I don't have it with me at the moment but I'll have a llook see at home, I might have a green book with some of the specs in it.
From time to time I get on the net and search that info in 1 particular engine to fill in the blanks so mine is a work in progress. It will get there one day.

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
Good thread to see start up, the only issue I have is that those numbers obviously come from the late model "green book", which has figures only for engines later than the 88250 head.
Here are the specs from my green book, the 1977 version, 88250, 9.7:1CR motor pictured in diagrams.
Spark Plug: ND W20EXR or NGK BPR-6EZ (note, we run BPR7ey and engine didn't run over as much in hot weather)
Spark Plug gap: 0.9 - 1.0mm
Ignition timing: 5 Degrees BTDC (static)
Firing Order: 1-3-4-2
Intake clearance (cold): 0.26mm - 0.32mm
Exhaust Clearance (cold): 0.31mm - 0.36mm
Initial Idle Speed: 1000RPM +/- 50RPM
Compression STD: 184.6psi (142psi limit, 14.2psi between cylinders)
Thermostat opening temp: start: 80.5 - 83.5 deg.C, Fully open: 95 deg.C
Tightening torques:
Cylinder Head bolts: 52.1 - 63.7 ft-lb.
Camshaft Bearing Cap nuts: 12.3 - 16.6 ft-lb.
Crankshaft Bearing Cap bolts: 72.3 - 79.6 ft-lb.
Rod Cap nuts: 46.3 - 50.6 ft-lb.
Crankshaft pulley bolt: 71.6 - 73.1 ft-lb.
Flywheel bolts: 59.3 - 63.7 ft-lb.
Oil Capacity: 4.7 litres total, 4.2 litres crankcase
Coolant Capacity: 9.1 litresDizzy points gap: 0.45mm

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
I bought an oil filter with that Part number TODAY, and read the p/n off the invoice and oil filter itself.
I know, it looks quite different to a 4A, 3S or 1UZ oil filter part number.....

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
I only ask as T motors used to have a p/n in that style. It was supersceeded by a new-style part number 12345-AB678 years and years ago. The new part number is shared with JZ, M, MZ etc. engines, but the old part number 12345-67890 still refers to the new filter as a replacement.Originally Posted by The Witzl

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
Hi,
I've got the Tractorworks Toyota Celica (TA22) Factory Manual. It's got freaking everyhting there, and I mean everything. This includes the 2T, 2TB and 2TG engines - full breakdown, pics, SSTs, specs, torque settings, tests etc. It also has it for the steering, suspension, brakes, 4 and 5 speed gearboxes and the auto. Plus it has the body work, electrical system, wiring diagrams.
Anyhting and everything you need to know about the TA22 is in there. Problem is it's a huge book and, me being in Adelaide, means that I do not have the ability to scan it.
However, fear not, 'cos I have scanned the entire section on the 2TG engine. If someone would like to show or tell me how to upload a few gig of vital 2TG information to the forum I'll give it a whilr over the next few days - seeing I'm back in Sydney.

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
But where do I/WE find info on the ever elusive 18R-GEU. Even on the cd's (that i dont have and dont exist) the R-GEU section has NO images. i have EPC pics now but no real data on the efi side of things only part numbers. its like this motor never existed...
Is there a GREEN bible that covers teh 18R-GEU?

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
I would like to get my hands on the efi book too, but also the emmission control manual and the emission control computer.
I only know one of the specs for the EFI kit, that's the details of the TPS/throttlebody and how it compares to a 5ME or 22RE (late???) version.
The 18RGEU TPS I have (89452-14010) has its first stage at 1-5 degrees open (same as 5ME early) and its second stage at 20 degrees open (5ME early has second stage set to 60degrees open).
The 18RGEU TPS has 18.5 written on the rotor, the 5ME TPS (89452-14020) has 58.5 written on the rotor.
I reckon if you could find a "big square type" TPS with 20 degrees written on the cover plate, you would have a direct replacement.
Anyone able to read their 2TGEU/3TGTEU TPS numbers?
Both 18RGEU and 5ME models looked at were three pin type.18RGEU throttle body size (p/n 22210-34070) = 60mm (5ME early p/n 22210-43270 is also 60mm and has same bolt pattern. Linkages on wrong side though).
22RE throttle body (35130-5J16) is 55mm and uses four pin TPS 89452-28030. Bolt pattern is same, TPS not compatible with 18RGEU loom. Linkages on correct side though.Strong like horse, smort like tractor!

Re: 18RG info and specs need 2tg and 3tg
river where are you bunking? i could pick it up assuming it is on cd and have a skim through and add the relevant information to the post.
steve, your measurment's seem "tighter" so i will add them to the top post in the very near future as those measurements would accomodate for all the other 18rg variants.
I might chuck the 18RC up as well when i do the updating.
